I notice a significant increase in the number of credits with ShortPixel Adaptive Images. Why?
You are using ShortPixel Adaptive Images and notice a substantial increase in the number of credits being used. Moreover, you can see the same image with lots (dozens) of slightly different widths and may ask yourself what's going on.
Here is the reason for what you are experiencing:
Your website is using a (very) responsive theme. This means that for a single image, there are many different versions of it (with different widths) being generated in a small period of time. While this is ideal from an end user/SEO point of view, we understand that it is not ideal for you in terms of the number of credits used.
Currently we see 2 different possible approaches here:
1) use the Autoptimize plugin which also uses ShortPixel CDN & image optimization, but doesn't serve adaptive images. This way you won't end up using as many credits as you use with ShortPixel. This could be a good workaround.
2) we're working on a new ShortPixel Adaptive Images (SPAI) plugin version that will not generate as many precisely sized thumbnails but instead will use some ranges. For example instead of having 3 different thumbs with widths like 345, 370, 381, you'll only have a single thumbnail with the width of 400.
This approach will be better than using Autoptimize, therefore we're developing this version of SPAI as we speak.
